The Cincinnati Bengals have made a big splash in the free agency market, showing that they are serious about protecting their star quarterback Joe Burrow. The team has signed four-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to a lucrative four-year deal worth $64 million, including $43.5 million in guaranteed money, according to his agent Michael Portner.
Brown, a former standout with the Kansas City Chiefs, was one of the most sought-after offensive tackles in free agency. The Bengals paid a premium to secure his services, with the deal reportedly paying out $42.3 million over the first two years, including a signing bonus of over $31 million – the highest ever for an offensive lineman.
This signing bonus is $10 million higher than what the Bengals paid to land offensive linemen Ted Karras, Alex Cappa, and La’el Collins last offseason.
The addition of Brown is a major coup for the Bengals, who are looking to improve their offensive line after Burrow suffered a season-ending knee injury in November of last year. Protecting the young quarterback is a top priority for the team, and Brown’s arrival should go a long way toward achieving that goal.
Other teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets, reportedly showed interest in Brown, but the Bengals were able to seal the deal with a lucrative contract offer.
